Doll ~ FAQ

Journal Entry: Tue Mar 30, 2010, 9:08 AM

This is my F.A.Q. With the most basic questions about my dolls and my photography. If you still have some questions after reading this please go ahead and give me a comment here ^_^

FIRST: Please do not take or use my photos without my permission! DO NOT STEAL.
I would really appreciate this. Thank you.

DOLLS

What are these dolls?
They are Asian Ball Jointed Dolls (bjd or abjd) or even Dollfies; Dollfies are a term Volks (Japanese company that brought out the first bjd in the late 90's) use for the asian ball jointed dolls.

They are made of Resin wich is very strong and pretty material and I think it's also the case why they are so expensive.

What are the size of these dolls?
I guess the smallest one is 10 cm and the biggest one 80-90 cm xD
My dolls are SD (super dollfie) that's 60 cm.
You also have MSD (mini super dollfie) and those are 40-45 cm
These days there are alot of various sizes. But 60 cm is the most common.

Do you make your dolls?
No! I buy them but I do customize them.

Do you paint your dolls?
Yes I paint the faces of my dolls by myself.  They called face ups.

How much cost these dolls?
The prize variates alot! For whole dolls it's like $200 - $2,000. Limited dolls are most of the time more expensiver and second dolls sometimes as well.

When you buy a doll you buy them mostly naked. Sometimes a company gives you a random wig and some eyes. The prize for a doll (60cm) like this is around $400-$600.

Where can I buy these dolls?
There are really A LOT of different companies where you can buy different BJD's.
I will give some popular ones:

Eluts: www.eluts.com
Fairyland: dollfairyland.com/shop/step_su…
Dream of Doll: dreamofdoll.com/
Leekeworld: www.leekeworld.us/
Dollmore: dollmore.net/index.php
SOOM: www.dollsoom.com/shop/step0.ph…
Okay I can go on forever xD

Buy the doll you fall in love with! It's so much nicer to have the one you safe all your money for and worked your ass off to buy that amazing pretty doll you can't stop thinking of than buying a cheap doll because you want one and after a while you think... nah.
-my opinion!-

My Dolls
Nabi: Migidoll Jina normal skin from www.migidoll.com on a Fantasy doll body.
Muse: He's an Alice in Labyrinth white skin Elijah head. homepage3.nifty.com/aliceinlab… On a Dollstown (DT15) body.
Pura: Leeke Mihael head from: www.leekeworld.us/
Makoto: Unoa L-bi (only avaiable in Japan or second hand)
(Curious about the doll molds I do not have anymore please leave here a comment)

Do you sell your dolls?
I sometimes do sell a doll if I don't want it anymore. But if this is the case I will write it in my journal so keep an eye to that please!

Do you take face up commissions?
I would be really happy if I could paint your doll :) Not for free though.

More information?
Den of Angels: www.denofangels.com/forums/ind… It's an international abjd forum and you really can find there everything! So if you're really serious about this hobby you can register there and find everything you want to know :3
Also a very handy part on DoA: www.denofangels.com/forums/sho… All the companies (but you have to register first)

PHOTOGRAPHY

Wich camera do you use?
I used an EOS Canon 450D. Now I have a new camera the Canon 5D mark II.

Wich lenses do you use?
Now I use mainly the canon 50mm and some kind of kit lense.

Do you edit you photos?
I use camera RAW and Photoshop to make my photos better yes.

Prints
Please ask~

Why do you photograph these dolls?
I really love to create. Just a tiny piece of myself. I maybe don't make the doll but I try to make them look as much unique as I can. That's why I paint their faces myself. 99% of the clothes are clothes I bought but I always try to do some things with it to make things different.

Also my main goal with photographing these dolls is to make them as much realistic as I can. So that it looks like I photographed humans.

Okay I hope this was a little clear and if there are still questions don't be shy and just ask me! ^w^

I will update this once in a while.

Thank you for reading this~

Hello, how are you?
I did a book and was looking for images to make the cover. And your photos are perfect. My book is called Porcelain and I wonder if I can use your photos to make the cover. I intend to publish independently on Amazon and also on the websites Clube de autores and PerSe.
Of course let the credits in the book and if you prefer to the link so they can access their gallery here in Deviantart.
I'll be waiting for your reply.
Thanks.

Ah I see now this, where you give a little bit more information :)

If you can place my name in the book and also on amazon, then you can have my permission.
Very curious which photo you want to use for the cover!

They can, but they have elastics inside and if they are wet, they can rot, so you have to be careful!

Thank you for replying ^_^

So do you mean you bought the clothes from the same place that you got the dolls? I was just curious because I am finding it hard to find nice clothes for my doll- and all of yours are so impeccably dressed : )

Thanks again : )

Well my clothes really come from anywhere and most of the clothes I don't even know where. I bought alot of second hand or found things random. But I buy my basic clothes on Dollmore. 8)

Hello dear! I have a question:

I am going to also buy a Fantasy doll body for a floating BJD head (larger doll head), and I was wondering what clothes will fit it? Did you buy the Tobias body? Just wondering cause i was on LUTS site today trying to shop for BJD clothing and it occurred to me that I didnt know if I need to buy Delf sized or Super Delf sized!

I would ask on the DoA forums, but I have posted a few questions before and no one replies....:*(....and since I think you have the same body, could you give me advice on which BJD clothing sizes fit the Fantasy Doll boy body?

YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What materials do you use to do a face-up and how long does it take? ...Also, how do you get it so both sides look the same, like the eyebrows and eyeliner for example?

Crappy materials... please look on DoA for more information about that xD
Just the basic thing is Mister Super Clear (MSC) and oil free acryl and soft pastel xD
Yeah.. I wish I knew a trick for that -_- because I actually suck in that xD But that's just insight and concentration.

I think it takes for me 2 hours to do a face up.

You're brilliant at doing face-ups! :P I may have to learn so I can do them too! Though I doubt I will be any good because I can't get things equal, ever XD
Did you practise a lot on a plain doll face?

No I just do a whole face up everytime but I've done it quite some times :'D and sometimes I just redo face ups from my dolls.
